The Staffordshire Hoard exhibited at The shire Hall Stafford

Shire Hall Stafford

Wednesay July 6th we visited The Shire Hall Gallery Stafford to see the rare find of Anglo Saxon artefacts, known as the Staffordshire Hoard.
Made up of exquisite Pommel caps, brooches, helmets, pieces of the cross, finely engraved and ornamented with rare garnets from as far away as India or Sri Lanka, bought over via trade routes as far back as the 7th or 8th centuries.
The find was discovered by a metal detectorist in a field near the village of Hammerwich near Lichfield Staffs.
How wonderful the finds of a lifetime, it had lain undisturbed in a farmers field for over a 1000 years.
Now we can all get a glimpse into the life of the people who lived in our County , then known as Mercia.
How fine and to what a quality of work, anship has gone into the making of these beautiful objects.
The exhibition is going to be shown in Washiungton Dc America in the Autumn.
